Obituary for Margaret "Sweetie" Schwarz
Anthon, Iowa - Margaret L. "Sweetie" Schwarz, 87, of Anthon, Iowa passed away Friday, August 16, 2013, at Char-Mac Assisted Living in Lawton, Iowa. The funeral service will be Monday, August 19, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon with Pastor Timothy Chase officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Anthon. Visitation will be Sunday, August 18 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home at Anthon. Margaret Louise "Sweetie" Schwarz was born August 10, 1926, at Bronson, Iowa, the daughter of James K. and Friedarieka (Ronnau) Drossel. She attended country school, Wolf Creek Township and high school at Anthon, Iowa. Margaret was united in marriage to Alvin Henry Schwarz on June 23, 1946, at St. John's Lutheran Church at Climbing Hill, Iowa. The couple first lived eight miles southeast of Moville for three years, then moved to Anthon for one year. They bought the Beers farm which is five miles northwest of Anthon in 1949, and decided to return to farming in 1952. Alvin entered the nursing home in 1994 and Sweetie moved in to Anthon in 1995. He passed away April 4, 2004. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon along with the Ladies Aid. Along with caring for her family, Sweetie volunteered as a 4-H leader for five years and was also an avon representative. For a number of years she had a home cleaning service in Anthon. She enjoyed refinishing furniture. Bird watching and collecting bird figurines and snow babies were hobbies she also enjoyed as well as gardening. She was always ready for a relaxed meal or cup of coffee out of the home with family or friends where she was known to really slow down and socialize. Above all, she had a special love her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Steven Schwarz and his wife Sally of Roswell, New Mexico and Walter Schwarz and his wife Vicki of Anthon, Iowa; three daughters, Darlene Walker and her husband Raymond of Correctionville, Iowa, Carol Schwarz of Kearney, Nebraska, and Diane Kirkholm and her husband Kyan of Shenandoah, Iowa; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Along with her husband, Sweetie was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Carey, Arthur, and James Drossel, who was killed in World War II; and three sisters, Caroline Etler, Gertrude Yockey, and Frances Etler.
