Obituary for Marcella "Sally" Mae Olson
Marcella “Sally” Mae Olson, age 90, of Mapleton, formerly of Ute, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home of Mapleton, Iowa.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ute, Iowa. Rev. Chris LaBoube will officiate; with burial following in the St.Clair Township Cemetery of Ute, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service held at 7:00 p.m., on Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ute, Iowa. Marcella Mae “Sally” Olson, was born on Sept 24, 1927, on the farm near Schleswig, IA. She was the daughter of Edward and Anna (Boysen) Reincke. Sally was baptized in Christ on October 23, 1927, and later confirmed in her faith in the Lutheran Church of Charter Oak, IA. She attended country school thru the 8th grade, and then went right to work helping on the farm.
On April 6th, 1947, Sally married the boy next door Delbert E. Olson, and to this union four children were born: Richard, Lorrie, Randall, and Jim. Sally worked at Farmland and owned Sally’s Bar for many years.
Sally enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening, and traveling. She will be remembered for her delectable homemade bread, pies and knop. A devoted farmer’s wife, mother, and grandmother her hardworking, kindness, and loving nature will be missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Richard L. Olson, Lorrie K (Kent) Moffitt, and James L. Olson all of Ute, IA; five grandchildren: Andy Conto, Chris Conto, Joshua Conto, Sandy Moffitt-Luce, and Brittany Newby; six great-grandchildren: Quintin Conto, Kaitlyn Conto, Darren Conto, Konstance Merchant, Ariel Nguyen, and Jasmine Nguyen; ex-husband Delbert Olson of Mapleton, IA and nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Anna Reincke; son Randall Olson; brothers Vernon, Leonard, and Roy.
