Mahela Martha Wendt, age 94, of Ricketts, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the Eventide Lutheran Home of Denison, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 11, 2018, at the St. Luke Lutheran Church of Ricketts, Iowa. Rev. Richard C. Merrill will officiate; with Committal Services following in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery of Soldier Township, Ricketts, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 10, 2018, with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. at the Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Mahela Martha Wendt was born on February 13, 1924, in Mapleton, Iowa, the oldest daughter of Henry and Freida (Meyer) Kruse. She was raised on the farm near Mapleton. She was baptized and confirmed in her Christian faith in Mapleton.
On March 28, 1943, Mahela was united in marriage to George Wendt in Mapleton. They made their home in the Ute/Mapleton area on farms. They were blessed with three children: Darlene, Gary and Richard.
Mahela worked at the R & R Café and retired from Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton as the head cook. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid in Ricketts, Iowa.
The couple moved to Ricketts, Iowa in their retirement years. Mahela enjoyed playing cards and bingo at the Senior Center. She also liked to crochet and make quilts. She proudly made a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Freida Kruse; husband George Wendt; brother Ralph Kruse; son-in-law Gary L. Price; sister-in-law Naomi Kruse; brothers-in-law Harry Hoffmeier and Ronnie Gosch.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Darlene Price of Council Bluffs, IA; sons Gary Wendt of Denison, IA and Richard Wendt of Mapleton, IA; four grandchildren: Laurie (Micheal) Sheil of Valley, NE, David Price of Denison, IA, Gary R. Wendt of Pocahontas, IA, Brandy (Jerrimeh) Nelson of Soldier, IA; four great-grandchildren; siblings Marvin (Joyce) Kruse, Clara Hoffmeier, Howard Kruse and Delores Gosch; sister-in-law Lucille Kruse; extended family and friends.
