Louise E. Sander, age 96, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away, Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the Mercy Medical Center, of Sioux City, Iowa.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, of Mapleton, Iowa. Father Richard D. Ball will officiate; with committal services following in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery of Mapleton, Iowa. A visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 24, 2017, with a Rosary Service held at 5:00 p.m., and a Vigil Service held at 7:30 p.m., at the Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Louise Elizabeth Sander, one of 13 children born to Joseph and Barbara (Theobald) Dirksen, was born on July 27, 1921, in rural Mapleton, IA. She graduated 8th grade from St. Mary’s Catholic School in 1935 and Mapleton Public School in 1939.
In 1942, Louise married Robert L. Sander of Ute, IA. She was blessed with three daughters Barbara, Patricia, and Diane. In 1948, Louise and her daughters moved to Danbury, IA, to live with her brother Joseph A. Dirksen. In 1953, they all moved to a farm that Joseph bought north of Mapleton, IA.
Louise was a detailed seamstress, making many dresses, formals, and children’s clothing. In her past time, Louise enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, square dancing and embroidery. She relished spending time with her daughters and their families.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Barbra Dirksen; siblings: Pearl Dickman, Clara Schleimer, Ed Dirksen, Albina (sister Ronald), George Dirksen, Anna Oberreuter, Rosina Miller, Leo Dirksen, Joseph Dirksen, Jr., Mary Arney, and Ronald Dirksen; sons-in-law Bill Castle and Ramon Trupp.
