Obituary for Lavonne P. Martin
Lavonne Patricia Martin was born on October 26, 1926, in Sioux City to Alva and Florence (Kurth) Cooper. She was raised in Mapleton and graduated from high school with the class of '44. She married Ralph Martin on June 22, 1946, and they moved to Smithland in 1953. Lavonne worked for First State Bank for 26 years and retired in 1988. She was a member of Willow Vale Golf Club, Smithland Birthday Club and Card Club, and was an American Legion Auxiliary treasurer. Lavonne enjoyed her flower gardens, reading, and wintering in Arizona when her health was good. She is survived by her husband, Ralph of Smithland; daughters Vicki (Gary) Musselman of Mitchell, SD, and Susan Green of Omaha, NE; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lavonne was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Florence Cooper; her brother, Elmer; her sister, Verna Mae Powell, and her youngest daughter, Michele.
