Obituary for Kent Amos Barnett
Kent Amos Barnett, age 84, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at MercyOne Siouxland Regional Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. A Private Family Graveside will take place in the St. Clair Township Cemetery of Ute, Iowa. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa, is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Kent Amos Barnett, the son of Amos and Helen (McAdon) Barnett, was born on June 18, 1937, near a farm in Little Sioux, IA. He grew up around the Little Sioux area until the age of 10 when the family relocated to a farm outside of Soldier, IA. Kent graduated from Ute High School with the class of 1955.

After high school, Kent worked as a commercial painter in Omaha, NE. In 1957, Kent married Francis Pithan, and relocated outside of Ute, IA, where the couple commenced in farming. Kent and Francis were blessed with six children: Randall, Richard, Ronald, Roger, Tana, and Rodney. The couple would later part ways.

In 1988, Kent married Zeta Richards and the couple retired to the family farm near Soldier, IA. Kent loved tinkering on tractors, remodeling homes, and spending as much time outdoors as possible.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents Amos and Helen Barnett; his wife Zeta (Richards) Barnett; sons Roger and Rodney Barnett, and brother Darrell Barnett.

He is survived by his children: Randall “Randy” (April) Barnett of Missouri Valley, IA, Ronald (Susie Bird) Barnett of Ute, IA, Richard (Debra) Barnett of Schleswig, IA and Tana Barnett of Mapleton, IA; sisters Aretha Stevens of Mondamin, IA, Sharon Barnett of Mapleton, IA and Karen Barnett of Onawa, IA; grandchildren: Justin, Greg, Nathan, Lindsey, Brooke, Brandon, Rachel, and Niki; honorary grandchild Taylor Erlemeier; four great-grandchildren and
his current companion Michelle O'Connell.
