Kenneth Arlie McGraw was born at Mapleton, Iowa on November 26, 1921, the son of Arlie and Marie (Jansen) McGraw. When Kenneth was two, the family moved to a farm near Anthon, Iowa where he later attended country school. In 1927, they moved to town where Kenneth attended the Anthon Public School, graduating in 1939. After graduation he worked for his father at the Anthon Cafe and then managed the Sinclair Station for Bill McNamara. He entered the Army Air Corp in October of 1942, was stationed in the U.S. and India, and was honorably discharged in April of 1946. Kenneth was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Lisa" Schuldt at St. John's Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill, Iowa on December 28, 1947. They first made their home in Anthon, then Sioux City and onto Climbing Hill, where they raised their children. During this time, Kenneth had purchased the Sinclair bulk plant in Spencer, Iowa which he later sold and went to work once again for Bill McNamara in his hardware, appliance, and car business for a period of five years. In 1951, Kenneth purchased the Sinclair Station from Marvin Huffman and later sold it to Merle White. He went to work for Booth and Olsen hauling batch for two years, and farmed for one year until a tractor accident forced him to quit farming. In 1955, Kenneth started working at Sears, first as a salesman in farm equipment and later in the appliance department for a total of 29 years, retiring in 1984. Upon retirement, Kenneth and Lisa moved back to Anthon. Lisa passed away January 20, 2012. Kenneth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church In Anthon and the American Legion McNiff Post #389 of Anthon. He and Lisa enjoyed traveling the continental United States. In their travels and as gifts from family and friends, they collected thousands of salt and pepper shakers which they eventually sold to a private collector via a national salt and pepper shaker magazine. Those that knew Kenneth recognized him as the quiet and gentle spirit that he was.
