Kenneth “Gus” Behrendsen was born to Charles and Esther (Klaus) Behrendsen on October 1, 1946, on the family farm outside of Ute, Iowa. He attended several country schools before going to work on the farm. Later on, Gus used his skills detailing vehicles while employed at Mac’s Chevrolet in Mapleton, Iowa and Holmes Motors in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Gus was a person that preferred being outside, whether gardening, mowing, or walking around town visiting with folks on his way. Tinkering with cars and other mechanical items was another one of the things he enjoyed. Gus loved spending time with his family and he never missed a family gathering. He could often be seen attending local auctions and people watching. Gus was always interested in the things happening around him.
Gus was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Esther Behrendsen; brother Steve Behrendsen; sister Bonnie Behrendsen; sister-in-law Jan Behrendsen; brothers-in-law Jack Spracklin, Derold Evers and Donald Howard; and great-great nephew Joseph Behrendsen.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings: Joyce Spracklin of Council Bluffs, IA, Pat Evers of Pocahontas, IA, Ronald Behrendsen of Council Bluffs, IA, Sheryl Howard of Omaha, NE, Dave Behrendsen of Phoenix, AZ, Myron Behrendsen of Phoenix, AZ and Tom (Gary Nixon) Behrendsen of Omaha, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
