Keith E. Allman, son of Millard and Mildred (Jackson) Allman was born September 22, 1941, in Sioux City, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm near Oto, Iowa and from an early age, the rhythms of farm life shaped him. He loved working alongside his dad and was active in 4-H, where his passion for agriculture and livestock first took root. During his school years, Keith played baseball and basketball, and he graduated as Valedictorian of the Oto High School Class of 1959. He treasured reminiscing with classmates, attending the Oto Alumni Banquet, and sharing stories from the “good ol’ days.”
It was in high school that Keith met the love of his life, Patricia Stodden. The two were married on June 12, 1960, and were later blessed with three children Kevin, Chris, and Kimberly. Together, Keith and Pat farmed for many years, raising corn, beans, oats, and alfalfa, as well as cattle, pigs, and sheep. Keith proudly served on the REC board, the Woodbury County Pork Producers, and was active in the Mapleton Flying Club.
Keith had a lifelong love of flying. One of his proudest accomplishments was earning his pilot’s license in 1969. He delighted in taking people for rides, often lifting off from the landing strip he built right on the farm. Later, he even co-owned a plane, a dream come true for a man who loved the sky as much as the soil.
Keith also worked for American Family Life Insurance, where he earned a memorable trip to Hawaii in 1984. For more than 35 years, he and Pat welcomed hunters from Alabama into their home, guests who quickly became cherished friends. Keith also enjoyed helping the Welte crew with farm work and took great pride in driving the grain cart every harvest.
For the past 15 years, Keith embraced life as a Texas snowbird. He loved attending music shows and jam sessions, tapping his foot to tunes that stirred his spirit. He also hauled campers across the United States, savoring the ever-changing landscapes outside his windshield. His travels even took him to Alaska three times.
Keith loved his children dearly, but it was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who became the twinkle in his eye. He was their biggest fan, faithfully attending their activities and sporting events, cheering them on with unshakeable pride.
Keith lived a life rich in purpose, generosity, and joy. A life woven together by family, community, and the land he loved. His legacy is carried on in the countless lives he touched and the stories that will keep his spirit alive for years to come.
Survivors include his children Kevin Allman of Oto, Iowa, Chris (Sherri) Allman of Breda, IA, and Kimberly (Michael) Teel of Hornick, IA; grandchildren: Josh, Nick, John, Chloe, Carter, Claire, Megan, Zach, Trisha, Brett and Katrina; sixteen great grandchildren; sister Mary Jane Shanahan of Sioux City, IA; and special friend Carol Riffey; extended family and friends.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents Millard and Mildred Allman; wife Patricia Allman; sister Alice (Dick) Lillie; nephew Dan Bumsted; and brothers-in-law Leo Shanahan and Larry Bumsted.
