Obituary for Keith E. Miller
Keith E. Miller, age 87, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, surrounded by his family at his residence of Mapleton, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2019, at the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church of Mapleton, Iowa. Rev. Chris LaBoube will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery of Smithland, Iowa, with Military Rites conducted by the Loren Hollister Post #496 of the American Legion of Mapleton, IA. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Memorial Service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2019, at the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church of Mapleton, Iowa. The Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Condolences may be sent online www.armstrongfuneral.com.


Keith E. Miller, the son of Claude L. and Estella A. (Jenkins) Miller, was born on December 22, 1931, in Castana, Iowa on the Miller family farm. He attended school in Ticonic through sixth grade and then Castana Consolidated School graduating with the class of 1950.

On June 21, 1952, Keith married his high school sweetheart, Alice Louise Lindley, at the Christian Church in Onawa, IA. In February of 1953, Keith left for the Army and went to Fort Leonard Wood, MO for basic training. He was stationed overseas to serve in the Engineer Division and later served in the Headquarters of the Artillery Division in Harvey Barracks Kichitzeng, Germany. Keith was honorably discharged as a Corporal in January 1955. He returned to the home farm in Ticonic and later farmed in the Mapleton area most of his life. He took pride in his farming and cow herd.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years Alice Miller; grandson Thomas (Jessica) Forbes of Mapleton, IA; children: Michael (Jan) Miller of Jewell, IA, Daniel (Regina) Miller of Crozet, VA and Susan Miller of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren: Ryan (Leigh) Miller of Stanhope, IA; Dr. Daisy Miller of Ontario, OR, Mark Miller of Webster City, IA, Keith Miller of Arlington, VA, Dr. Amber Miller of Jacksonville, FL; 8 great-grandchildren: Will Forbes, Charlie Forbes, Sylvia Forbes and Kelly Forbes, Triston Twedt, Treyton Twedt, Kaelen Miller and McKenna Miller; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Estella Miller; six sisters: Bethine (Robert) Morse, Freda (Waldo) Lundeen, Wilma (Orlo) Johnson, Elizabeth (Robert) Nutt, Jeannine (Russell) Clemons, and Carol (Frank) Hewitt; two brothers: LeRoy (Lavonne) Miller and Russell (Joan) Miller.; in-laws Jeff (Daisy) Lindley, Esther Chedester, Violet Strait and Roy Lindley.
