Kathleen Ann Fitzpatrick was born on April 4, 1941, in Sioux City, Iowa, the second of three children to James and Anna (Gill) Curran. Kathy attended St. Peter’s Catholic Grade School in Jefferson, South Dakota and graduated from Bishop Heelen High School in Sioux City, Iowa, in1959. After high school, she attended Nettleton Business Training School and began working at First Federal Bank in Sioux City.

Kathy met the love of her life, Peter W. Fitzpatrick, at the Old Time Dance held at the Shore Acres Ball Room in Sioux City, Iowa. The two were united in marriage on December 28, 1963, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Jefferson, South Dakota. They established a loving home on the Fitzpatrick family farm near Danbury, Iowa and were blessed with four children: Maurna, Mollie, and twins P.C. and Matt.

Kathy participated in a bowling league and was a member of Willow Vale Golf Course. She was an active volunteer of the local Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America where her sons both became Eagle Scouts. Kathy was a devout member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Danbury for over 60 years. She was an active member of the Rosary Society and several additional committees.

Kathy took great joy in tending her garden. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, where her love for cooking and baking created cherished memories. Baking was a time for her to connect with her grandchildren and hand down life lessons. She was a founding member of the Church Ladies Investment Club that carried on for over 25 years. She delighted in reading the Wall Street Journal, often sharing financial wisdom with friends. She had a talent for sewing which started at an early age and her passion carried on for many years.

Kathy and Pete sent their four children to Iowa State University where they cheered on the Cyclones. She cherished the time spent at her children and grandchildren’s activities and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory include her children Maurna (Joel) Johnson of West Des Moines, IA, Mollie (Tim) Murano of West Des Moines, IA, P.C. (Deb) Fitzpatrick of Chicago, IL and Matt (Darlene) Fitzpatrick of Danbury, IA; nine grandchildren: Charlie and Anna Johnson, Megan and Dan Murano, Norah, Anderson and Gunnar Fitzpatrick, Molly and J.T. Fitzpatrick; brother Michael (Judy) Curran of Elk Point, SD; sister Patty (Dave) Sackett of Grants Pass, OR; extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband Peter Fitzpatrick; parents James and Anna Curran; in-laws Charlie and Marie Fitzpatrick; and sisters-in-law Mary Fitzpatrick and Ann Fitzpatrick.
