Obituary for Karen M. Kingsbury
Karen M. Kingsbury, age 77, of Danbury, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018, at the UnityPoint Health - St. Luke’s Hospital of Sioux City, Iowa.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Danbury United Methodist Church of Danbury, Iowa. Pastor Kirk Manchester will officiate. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 11, 2018 at the Danbury United Methodist Church of Danbury, Iowa. Committal Services will be held at a later date in the Liston Township Cemetery of Danbury, Iowa. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Karen Mae Kingsbury was born on August 25, 1940, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Violet (Wecker) Strong. Karen graduated with the class of 1958 from Bishop Heelan High School in Sioux City. She then attended the University of South Dakota. On May 22, 1960, Karen was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Kingsbury. Together they lovingly raised 2 children: son Rick and daughter Shawn.
Karen worked as an Activity Director in the mental health department at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was also a beautician in Danbury. She cherished morning coffee with her friends in Danbury. For many years she volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She was also an active volunteer and regular attendee of the United Methodist Church in Danbury.
Karen was very fond of watching her grandchildren in all of their activities. She could be found in the gym or in the grandstands cheering them on or chastising a bad call. She was very proud of all of their accomplishments and endeavors. Karen enjoyed her favorite chair watching the Gameshow Network or any sport on TV. She collected both inside and outside birdhouses and loved bird watching from her sunroom.
Karen was the family prayer warrior and rallied many a good grade, job application and any other worry. She will be greatly missed by all.
Left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 57 years Richard “Dick” Kingsbury of Danbury, IA; her son Rick (Annie) Kingsbury of Omaha, NE, daughter Shawn (Mark) Murphy of Ashland, NE; 4 grandchildren Brooke (Leo) Tuamoheloa, Conor Kingsbury, Rylee Murphy and Chloe Murphy; sister Deb (Doug) Tudehope of Sioux City, IA; brothers-in-law Bob (Judy) Kingsbury and Tom (Rita) Kingsbury all of Sioux City, IA; sister-in-law Janet (Rick) Lundgren of Ames, IA; countless other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Donald Strong, Jr. and sister Shari Curry.
