Obituary for Judy King

Judith “Judy” King, age 79, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.


A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 13, 2025, at the St. John’s United Methodist Church of Mapleton, Iowa. Pastor Curt R. Copple will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery of Anthon, Iowa.


Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 13, 2025, at the St. John’s United Methodist Church of Mapleton, Iowa.

Judith “Judy” Lee Dean, the daughter of Leo and Ruth (Wittenmyer) Dean, was born on October 14, 1945. She grew up on the family farm west of Mapleton, Iowa and attended school at Mapleton High School graduating with the class of 1964.


After high school Judy worked for the Ben Franklin clothing store until moving to Sloan, Iowa and then began working at Younkers in Sioux City, Iowa. While working in Younkers, she met her future husband, Joseph “Joe” King, of Bronson, Iowa. The couple was married on September 5, 2005, in Moville, Iowa. They lived on a farm near Bronson until Joe’s passing in 2016. Judy then moved back to Mapleton to be closer to family and friends.


Together Judy and Joe had fun going on many tractor rides and vacationing together. They loved to go out to eat, and to go camping, especially to Yankton. Judy also enjoyed playing bingo at several different places.


Left to cherish her memory include her brother Leo (Kathy) Dean of Mapleton, IA and sister Susan (Louie) Hargens of Charter Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Ruth Dean; husband Joe King; sisters Connie Moat, Norma Plough, and Shirley Schoenherr.
