Obituary for Juanita E. Thies
Juanita Ellen Thies was born to Olena and Martin Christensen on September 28, 1924, on the family farm outside of Mapleton. She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1941. After graduation, Juanita attended National Business Training, passed the Civil Services exam, and worked for Hillfield Base in Ogden, Utah, processing soldiers during WWII. She married Herbert Ernst and was a homemaker until his death in 1966. Juanita moved to Mapleton and was employed by the Mapleton Press and later by Westendorf Manufacturing in Onawa. Juanita married Martin Thies on May 8, 1976, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. They made their home in Mapleton. Juanita was a lifelong member of the UCC, the American Legion auxiliary for 20 years, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Juanita was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be missed by all. Survivors include; her daughter, Linda (Ernst) Roesler and husband Curt of Aurora, CO; daughter-in-law Celesta Ernst of Conifer, CO; her beloved grandchildren, Cari and Matt Zeimet of Centennial CO, Matt and Jodie Roesler of Des Moines, IA, Courtney and Miguel Tobon of Denver, CO, and Morgan Ernst of Denver, CO; and great-grandchildren Cameron Zeimet and Dylan Roesler. Juanita is also survived by her siblings Kathryn Kruse of Soldier, IA, Laura Fitzpatrick of Danbury, IA, and Martin Christensen, of DeKalb IL and Sun City, AZ. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Martin Thies; a son, Robert Ernst; a daughter, Nancy Ernst; a brother, Norman Christensen; an infant sister, Adeline; and a half-brother, James Baagoe.
