Obituary for Joyce (Shipley) Hanson
Joyce Elaine Hanson was born on May 11, 1925 to Floyd and Goldie (Thompson) Shipley at the family home in Ute.ξ She passed from this life to the next early on Sunday morning, September 22, 2013 at her apartment in Ute. Joyce spent most of her life in the Ute community, graduating from Ute High School in April of 1942.ξ After the attack at Pearl Harbor, her class went to school on Saturdays in order to graduate early.ξ She worked at Ute State Bank and then, during World War II, at a bank in Des Moines.ξ She was in Des Moines during V.E. Day. On May 11, 1952, she was united in marriage to Dwayne Hanson at Clarinda, Iowa.ξ They moved to a farm just outside of Soldier, where they raised their three children.ξ Mr. Hanson died in 1995. Joyce was a member of the Ute Christian Church, the Ladies Aid, the Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary, the ABC Club and the "Red Hat" Club.ξ She served the Christian Church for many years as Sunday School teacher, Youth Group sponsor and organist, even occasionally playing for church when in her 80's. ξ Joyce is survived by her 3 children; daughters Cynthia Moore and her husband, Jack of Liscomb, Iowa; Jolene Kruger and her husband, Bob of Alexander, Iowa; son Scott Hanson and his wife, Lisa of Raleigh, North Carolina; 8 grandchildren, Dan Moore of Marshalltown, IA, Sarah Moore of Tempe, AZ, Erin (Kruger) Cavazos and her husband, Amado of Grimes, IA, Brent Kruger of Waverly, IA, Ryan Dean of Leesburg, FL, Arika Dean of Raleigh, NC and twins Jack and Carter Hanson of Raleigh, NC., 2 brothers, Ned Shipley and his wife, Marcia of Omaha, NE and Gene Shipley and his wife, Birdie of Discovery Bay, CA as well as numerous cousins and nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother, Glenn, and her granddaughter, Heidi Jo Kruger. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the family at Joyce's home at 300 South Riddle Street, Ute, Iowa 51060.
