John V. "Jack" Shanahan Ute, IA - John V. "Jack" Shanahan, 80, of Ute, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa. The funeral service will be Monday, March 16, 2015, at 2:00 p.m.at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute, Iowa. Pastor Karen Handke will officiate. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. John Vincent "Jack" Shanahan was born November 25, 1934, at Ute, Iowa, the first of nine children born to Vincent and Teresa (Flynn) Shanahan. He grew up in the Ute area and attended school there. He later farmed and worked at the Ute Elevator. In 1981, Jack moved to Garden City Kansas where he helped build the IBP cafeteria. He then went to work in the IBP plant until retirement. Survivors include five children, Michelle Collins and her husband, Mark of Schererville, Indiana, Michael "Mike" Shanahan and his friend, Heather, of Sioux City, Iowa, Monica Petersen and her husband, Jim of Lawton, Iowa, Melissa Campos and her husband, Jeff of Redlands, California, and Thomas Shanahan of Clinton, Oklahoma; seven brothers and sisters, Peggy Rosenbaum and her husband, Al of Elk Point, South Dakota, Kay Timm and her husband, Orval of Smithland, Iowa, Gerald "Toby" Shanahan and his wife, Sandra of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Connie Langenfeld and her husband, Ronnie and Clarita Butz and her husband, Steve, all of Ute, Iowa, Ellen Sue Graham of Mankato, Minnesota, and Joel Shanahan and his wife, Cathy of Ute, Iowa; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Daniel Shanahan.ξ
