Obituary for John A. Palmer
John A. Palmer, age 64, of Holstein, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2020, at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at the Little Sioux Township Cemetery of Smithland, Iowa. Pastor Roy Struble will officiate. Due to COVID-19 pandemic masks are mandatory and social distancing rules apply during all services.

The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa, is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Condolences may be sent online www.armstrongfuneral.com.

John Arnold Palmer, the son of Paul J. and Marilyn M. (Kirkpatrick) Palmer, was born on August 19, 1956, in Omaha, Nebraska. John grew up in the Smithland, Iowa, area and received his education at Westwood High School in Sloan, Iowa.

During his lifetime, John worked at many different locations. Most of those jobs were running heavy equipment for Krage Construction, Van Buskirk Construction and Grell Construction. His most recent employment was with River Sales in Sloan, Iowa.

John loved the great outdoors. He enjoyed sitting around a campfire, telling tall tales, and listening to country music. He loved his dogs; especially taking his little dog, Bubba, for long walks. John will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory include his mother Marilyn Palmer of Smithland, IA; brothers Jeffrey Palmer of Spencer, NE, Curtis (Victoria) Palmer of Whiting, IA, James Palmer and Kevin Palmer both of Smithland, IA; sisters Kristina (Fred) Barge of Whiting, IA, Carla Palmer of Schleswig, IA and Deborah (Brent) Kroll of Schleswig, IA; uncle Terry Kirkpatrick of Mineral Wells, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Paul Palmer; brother Bryan “Pee Wee” Palmer; paternal grandparents Elmer and Beulah Palmer; maternal grandparents Walter and Isabel Kirkpatrick; nephews Robert Palmer, Donald Palmer and Cory Theeler; as well as extended family.
