
Jeanette A. Urwiler, age 86 of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. Rev. Nathan Peitsch will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Mapleton, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 6:45 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa.

Jeanette Ann Urwiler, the daughter of Roland and Leona (Lau) Schumacher, was born on July 18, 1938, in Freeborn County Minnesota. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith on August 14, 1938, at the Zion Lutheran Church of Northwood, Iowa.
At the age of 4, the family relocated from Minnesota to Correctionville, Iowa. From the age of 4 on, Jeanette grew up in Correctionville. She was confirmed in the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Cushing, Iowa and received her education graduating from Correctionville High School with the class of 1956. Jeanette went on to further her education receiving a B.A. degree from Wayne State Teacher’s College in January of 1960.
After College graduation, Jeanette taught Kindergarten at Hunt School in Sioux City, Iowa for two and half years. On July 29, 1962, Jeanette married William “Bill” L. Urwiler at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Cushing. The couple moved to Ute, Iowa, where they were employed with the Charter Oak-Ute Community School until retirement in 1997.
Jeanette was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ute where she enjoyed singing in the church choir. She also served on the Board of Education and Financial Committee. Jeanette was a member of the Friends of the Library in Ute, where her monthly duty was to change the bulletin board which took her back to her many years of teaching kindergarten.
She loved singing many years with the Spirit Singers and traveling to different churches each Sunday to sing for their service. Jeanette enjoyed meeting and working with people. She also enjoyed golfing with her husband Bill and her dear friend Barb. Some other favorites were reading, making chocolate chip cookies, keeping her windows sparkling clean, cheering for the Huskers, and at 11:00 a.m. you knew she would be watching her favorite soap opera “The Young and the Restless”. Jeanette and Bill Enjoyed wintering in Palm Springs, California, for many years.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 62 years, William Urwiler of Mapleton, IA; son Jon (significant other Laurie Circo) Urwiler of Gretna, NE; grandchildren Haley (Alex) Embree and Noah Urwiler; great-grandchild Turner Scott Embree; extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Roland and Leona Schumacher; and sister Adeline Mae (age 2).
