Janice Letitia Burns, the daughter of Clarence and Geraldine (Armstrong) O’Connor, was born on August 18, 1954, in Mapleton, Iowa. She grew up in the Mapleton area and received her education from Mapleton High School.
On May 28, 1982, Janice was united in marriage to Robert D. Burns in Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Correctionville, Iowa. At the time, Janice was employed at Walmart in Sioux City, Iowa. When Janice and Robert started their family, she became a full-time homemaker caring for their children. In 1996 the family moved to Washta, Iowa and in 2003 they moved to Cherokee, Iowa, where Janice was still residing at the time of her passing.
Janice enjoyed playing cards and dice, and was an amazing cooking. She treasured time spent with her large family. There was no stranger in her home; everyone was welcome. She was a mom and grandma to all and in her own words “the mother of the shoe”. Janice was an adventurous spirit who loved going on car rides and her daily dose of Diet Mt. Dew. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
