Obituary for Janet L. (Lynn) Brash
Vivacious gardener, eclectic quilter seamstress and embroiderer, teacher extraordinaire and spoiler of grandchildren, Janet Louise Brash(nee Lynn) left her earthly strawberry and flower gardens on June 2nd. A lover of homemade ice cream, Mom was born on May 22nd, 1943 in Onawa, Iowa to Ruth Ann and Lyle "Mick" Lynn of Castana, Iowa. Mom grew up with her two brothers, Larry and Dony Lynn, and many cousins in and around Castana. After graduating from Castana High School in 1961, mom moved to Cedar Falls to attend Iowa State Teachers College and graduated in 1965. Teaching was another of mom's passions, and she taught in Ashland, Oregon, Burley and Pocatello, Idaho, Solon, Cedar Rapids and Marion, Iowa and Remer and Longville, Minnesota. In 1969 Garth was born followed by Garin in 1973 and Greg in 1976. Her teaching skills and patience were severely tested in raising these three squabbling hellions. Retiring in 1997, she moved to Rutland, ND and got in touch with the country girl inside her. Marrying the local veterinarian, she raised sheep, cattle, flowers, cats, dogs and rocks on a small farm outside town. Following the death of her husband in 2004 and several bouts of illness she moved to Bear Creek, North Carolina in 2013 to be closer to her son Greg. She died on Tuesday, June 2nd in Geneva, Illinois, while on vacation to see her son Garth in Avon, Minnesota, and Garin and his brood, in Geneva, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Larry, her cousins Michael and Vernon Campbell and Linda Hamman (Campbell) and husband Larry. Mom leaves behind son Garth and Kim, son Garin and his wife Jen, son Greg and wife Dana, brother Dony Lynn and his wife Cathy, and five grandchildren, Ella, Dylan, Lucas, Max and Karissa Bergman.
