CASTANA, Iowa--Jane A. (Johnson) Hinkel, 57, of Castana died surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor Joel Gueningsman officiating. Burial will be at St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Visitation will be at the church Friday, November 27, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00. Armstrong Funeral Home of Ute and Mapleton is in charge of the arrangements. Jane Ann (Johnson) Hinkel was born October 7, 1958, at Council Bluffs, Iowa, the youngest of three daughters of James and Mary McDaniel Hanks. She graduated from Logan-Magnolia High School with the class of 1977.
Jane married Rodney D. Johnson on her 31st birthday (October 7, 1989) at the Town and Country in Ute. Rodney promised her if his softball team, the Navahos, won their tournament that year that he would marry her on her birthday so he would only have one important day a year to remember. Rodney died on July 16, 2007.
For over two decades, Jane worked at the Ute Hotel and Sparetime in Ute as a daytime cook and bartender. Her love of people and her strong work ethic made her a natural for these jobs.
On July 30, 2010, she married Stan Hinkel at their farm in an outdoor ceremony in their flower garden.
During her free time, Jane loved camping, fishing (mainly because she caught more and bigger fish than Stan), playing cards, riding motorcycles, gardening, and being with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Stan; her mother, Mary Hanks of Missouri Valley, Iowa; a sister, Susan (Dale) Baak of Holstein, Iowa; two nieces and their husbands, Lisa (Randy) Steffen of Charter Oak, Iowa and Reagan (Ben) Barry of Norwalk, Iowa; four nephews and their spouses, Eric Johnson (Dr. Mark Parker) of Dallas, Texas, Ryan (Keri) King of Mondamin, Iowa, Scott (Mia) Johnson of San Bernardino, California, and Kyle (Erin) King of Ankeny, Iowa; five great nieces; eleven great nephews; her brother-in-law, Roger Johnson of Ute, Iowa; her father-in-law, Russ Hinkel of Onawa, Iowa; and many other relatives and good friends.
Jane was preceded in death by her first husband, Rodney; her grandparents; her father, James Hanks; her mother-in-law, Betty Hinkel; her parents-in-law, Elvin and Ruby Johnson; and a sister, Patricia King.
