Obituary for Jan Wolterman
Jan Wolterman Danbury, Iowa - Jan Wolterman, 70, of Danbury, Iowa passed away Monday, September 30, 2013 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury with Rev. Dan Greving, Celebrant and Rev. Andrew Sohm, Concelebrant. Burial will be in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church. There will be a Rosary by St. Mary's Rosary Society at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Armstrong Funeral Home of Danbury and Mapleton is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be directed to the family at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Janice Dee "Jan" Wolterman was born September 24, 1943, at Oakland, California, the daughter of Robert J. Paul and Maxine Agnes (Sexton) Arney. From the time she was six months old until the last few months of her life, she was a resident of Danbury, Iowa. She graduated from Danbury Catholic High School with the class of 1961. Jan married Charles Peter Wolterman on January 19, 1963. To this marriage there were two children born, Michael Peter "Waldo" Wolterman, who passed away on April 24th 1982, from a car accident, and Patricia Rae (Wolterman) Manthorne. Charlie Pete passed away July 29, 2008. At the time of the onset of her sickness, Jan was the president of the Church Ladies Investment Club and president of St. Mary's Rosary Society, a member of the Nuns on the Run and an avid supporter of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury and the Danbury Catholic School. Survivors include her daughter, Patti Manthorne and her husband, Mike, of Sioux City, Iowa; Jan's three grandchildren, Ashley (Gosch) Hobbs and her husband, Kyle, of Elkton, Maryland, Alex Gosch of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Carter Manthorne of Sioux City, Iowa; one great granddaughter, Nora Grace Hobbs; her father, Robert Paul of Burlington, Iowa; one sister, Ann Kapuska of Barnum, Iowa; a step brother and his wife, Terry and Diane Arney of Maine; two uncles, Kieran "Tiny" Sexton of Sioux City, Iowa and Robert Sexton of Tucson, Arizona; one aunt, Delores "Pudgy" Black of South Sioux City, Nebraska; her mother-in-law, Mary Wolterman of Mapleton, Iowa; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Paul and Judy Wolterman and Mark and Sherrie Wolterman all of Danbury, Iowa; four sisters-in-law, Linda and Fred Aiken of Santa Maria, California, Fanchon and Fred Dirksen of Danbury, Iowa, Morna and Tony Levatino of Laguna, Hills, California, and Marcine and Keith Burns of Rosemount, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Charlie Pete, and son, Mike, Jan was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Michael Gosch; her mother, Maxine Arney; one uncle, Thomas "Skip" Sexton; one aunt, Veda Mae Workman; and her father-in-law, Marcellus Wolterman.
