His mother passed away when Jack was two years old and while his father was in the Army overseas, he lived with relatives and neighbors. Jack attended country school and the Emerson Public School. He loved to tell the grandkids he went through school in one day - in the front door and out the back. Jack helped his father on the farm until at the age of 15 he began working the wheat harvest from Kansas through North Dakota into Canada. This is when he learned to drive a truck which became his life's passion. At age 18 he went to California and worked in the logging business for several years before moving to Kiron, Iowa. There he farmed and owned and operated a corn sheller. He also worked at Farmland Foods, first in the Smokehouse, then driving truck. Jack tried retirement but missed the trucking business and went to work for Mid-Continent of Denison. He made many friends across the United States that always remember him for his honesty and fairness. On January 4, 1986, Jack married Sharon Carter in Ute, Iowa. They enjoyed camping and fishing in various states. Jack was an avid outdoorsman. He hunted elk, deer, antelope, wild pigs and game birds. His buddies looked forward to hunting with "Old Father Time". He was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa. Survivors include his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Kathy Pope and friend Don Diersen of Kiron, Iowa and Kristy (Jim) Munden of Grand Island, Nebraska; two stepsons, Brian Carter of Dunlap, Iowa and Randy (Amelia) Carter of Ridgeland, South Carolina; three step daughters, Lori Schroeder of Anthon, Iowa, Sheryl (Brett) Schelm of Climbing Hill, Iowa, and Noel (Darren) Dubsky of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; 14 step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and 11 great step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Ruth Teut; sons, Kevin and Keith; and son-in-law, Lee Schroeder. Condolences may be sent to the family at P.O.
