Irvin Thies, age 89, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ute, Iowa. Reverend Nathan Peitsch will officiate. Committal services will follow in the St. Clair Township Cemetery of Ute, Iowa.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa.

Irvin Delaine Thies, the son of Rudy and Hazel (Hansen) Thies, was born on March 11, 1937, in Ute, Iowa. He grew up in the Ute and Mapleton, Iowa, area. He graduated from Ute High School with the class of 1955.
On February 14, 1960, Irvin married the love of his life Jo Ann Wimer. The couple settled on the Thies family farm southeast of Mapleton and welcomed their three children Shelly, Kelly, and Jim.
Irvin was a faithful member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ute, Iowa. He served many years as a trustee and an elder. He was a true man of the land, Irvin’s life revolved around farming and spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Shelly (Packy) DeMara of Sioux City, IA, Kelly (Gary) McGathy of Wichita, KS, and Jim (Lisa) Thies of Mapleton, IA; grandchildren: Amanda (Jake), Alyssa (Brayden), Phil (Dawn), Chris (Raelynn), and Nick (Kourtney); great grandchildren: Joanna, Nash, Wyatt, Allison, Oliva, Chance, Parker, Hazel, Haylie, and Annabelle; brother Gary Thies of Mapleton, IA; nieces, Carrie Huff and Laurie Johnson; extended family and dear friends.
Irvin is preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Thies; parents, Rudy and Hazel Thies; sisters-in-law, Maxine Thies, and Bunny Traver.
