Harold "Ole" Jeffrey was born May 10, 1924 southeast of Correctionville, Iowa, the son of Ernest George and Inez Maude Pearl (Streeter) Jeffrey. He grew up and attended school in the area. In 1955, he was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church at Correctionville where he remained a member throughout his life.
Ole first worked on the family farm. In 1946, he bought his first livestock truck and began a career in local trucking for farmers shipping livestock and hauling grain. He sold his last truck in 1972. He then did custom combining. He also worked on construction for various construction companies, the last being Mathers Construction in Correctionville.ξ
On October 9, 1946, Ole was united in marriage to Lucinda Charlotte Schumann in South South City, Nebraska. Together they raised their four daughters. In later years, Ole and Lucinda spent several winters in Arizona. When Lucinda's health declined, Ole was devoted to her care and visited her every day when she went to the nursing home. Lucinda passed away December 24, 2006. Ole continued to live at home in Correctionville until July of this year when he was hospitalized and then entered Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.
Ole was a member of the Correctionville Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years, retiring in 1986, and a member of the Correctionville Chamber of Commerce. Ole, a person of few words, was known to his family to be an independent man of routine. Above all, he was a caring man to his wife, his daughters, and his community.
Those family members left to love and honor Ole are his four daughters and their husbands, Margaret and John Pansegrau of Albany, Oregon, Gloria and Chuck Jackson of Oto, Iowa, Joleen and Andy Dose of Danbury, Iowa, and Terri and Roland Christensen of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Florke and Opal Mae Forch, both of Sioux City, Iowa; and a sister-in-law Eileen Jeffrey of Correctionville, Iowa; and many other extended family members.
Along with his beloved wife, Lucinda, Ole was preceded in death by his parents; and six siblings, Ellen Roggatz, Ernest "Bud" Jeffrey, Albert Jeffrey, and Bessie, Raymond, and Robert Jeffrey, all in infancy.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund.
