Obituary for Grace Wilson
Grace I. Wilson Anthon, IA - Grace I. Wilson, 90, of Anthon, Iowa died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon with Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Anthon. Visitation will be Friday at the church after 4:00 p.m. with the Rosary by the Catholic Daughters at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Wake service at 7:00 p.m. followed by the American Legion Auxiliary service. Armstrong Funeral Home of Anthon is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences can be directed to the family at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Grace Irene (Jones) Wilson was born in Anthon, Iowa December 5, 1921, the daughter of Howard Elmer and Fae Valentine (Myers) Jones. After the family moved to Bronson, Iowa, Grace attended school there for several years. They moved to Sioux City, Blencoe, and then to Climbing Hill in 1936. After the death of her father, Grace lived with her mother and step father, John Eichhorn. In May 1940, she graduated from Climbing Hill High School. She married Ralph Wilson at Dakota City, Nebraska August 19, 1940 and made their home in Anthon. Ralph passed away August 11, 2005. Grace attended the Ellis School of Cosmetology in Sioux City and graduated in April 1949. In 1950, she purchased the Modern Beauty Shop in Anthon and worked in her profession for over 50 years. She first operated out of the downtown building and after two years moved her shop to her home. Grace maintained she had the best of both worlds with family and career at one location. She developed an interest in politics from her mother and was elected Vice Chairperson of the Woodbury County Democratic Central Committee. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the American Legion Auxiliary McNiff Unit #389 of Anthon. Her interests included golfing, her dogs, and attending new car shows with Ralph. She and Ralph were passionate about going to dances with their friends, loved having people in their home and above all, they cherished their family. Survivors include four sons and their wives, John and Gayla Wilson of Anthon, Iowa, Ray and Priscilla Wilson of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Steve and Sue Wilson of Correctionville, Iowa, and Kermit and Lyn Wilson of Ames, Iowa; and a daughter and her husband, Suzy and Terry Schneider of Phoenix, Arizona; 15 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren; as well as her dog and companion, Ginger. Along with her husband, Grace was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jim Wilson; a grandson, Preston VanHouten; and a great granddaughter, Devin Gochenour.
