Obituary for Gordon D. Weber
Gordon David Weber, age 79, of La Mesa, California passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Sharp Hospice Bonita Home of Bonita, California.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Anthon, Iowa. Father Dan Greving will officiate; with interment following in the Kingsley Cemetery, of Kingsley, Iowa. Military Rites will be conducted by the United States Army National Guard and Nash Post No. 140 of the American Legion of Kingsley, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Friday, March 10, 2017, at the Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Anthon, Iowa. Gordon D. Weber of La Mesa, CA passed away on March 1, 2017; he was born on September 17, 1937 to Louis A and Francis (Haller) Weber. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Anthon, IA, then joined the Army where a majority of his tour was in the Panama Canal Zone. Upon his discharge from the Army he attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA, graduating in 1961 with honors.
Gordon was employed with the Department of Social Services, State of Iowa in the Sioux City office for 21 years where he held various positions before early retirement due to health problems which followed him the rest of his life.
He married Phyllis Maxwell on November 20, 1983 and assisted her with her gun shops both in Iowa and California fulfilling an interest for him. They also participated in purchasing vehicles for resale for several years, he could tell many tales about these two ventures. Gordon and Phyllis moved to La Mesa in 1987, where he enjoyed the friendship of his college buddy Frank Beall.
Living in California gave Gordon the opportunity to play in several slow pitch senior softball leagues and at one time played 7 days a week. The Padres and Chargers along with the Nebraska Huskers were teams he followed when he could no longer hunt with friends which was his first love. Firearms were an item of beauty to Gordon. Before health issues made it difficult he loved to dance to country western music.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul, Chuck and Glenn; sisters Marcia and Dorothy. He leaves to morn, his wife Phyllis; two daughters and their husbands, Ann Sabag and Micheal of Gaithersburg, MD and Stephanie Hollibaugh and Christopher of Hayden, ID. Gordon was known as Papa to his granddaughters Isabella Rose and Lily Kathryn Hollibaugh; His survived by a sister Sharon (Lawrence) Peters of Correctionville, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
