Gloria M Welte of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa passed away Wednesday September 13, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family, after losing her seventh courageous battle with cancer.
Gloria was born to John and Cecilia (Kosse) Bindner on October 4, 1929. She was raised on a farm outside of Marcus, Iowa and attended Holy Name High School. She went on to graduate from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in 1951. She had several different nursing roles throughout her career including surgical nurse, floor nurse and public health nurse in several different states including California, Iowa, Indiana and Minnesota. In 1999, she was appointed to the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners by Governor Vilsack.
She was united in marriage on November 24, 1956, to Maurice Welte. They were married for 52 years and raised 5 children. She enjoyed living and working on their farm outside of Danbury Iowa. They enjoyed traveling, whether it was trips to Ireland (her favorite) or around the United States in their RV. The thing that mattered the most to her were the times spent with their friends and family. She also enjoyed her numerous Welte Women’s Weekends. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
Gloria spent many hours doing volunteer work. She was a National Red Cross Nurse, a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, a member of the Red Hats Society and an active supporter of the Democratic Party assisting voters on Election Day. She was an original member of the Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD) Board and served on the board for 26 years. She was very proud of the assistance they provide to the communities through the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, Sioux City Sue and the Hard Rock Casino. Most would agree that Gloria’s sense of humor and smile were contagious.
She is survived by her children Ann Vandivort (Dave) of Lee Summit, Missouri, Karen Stotz of Sloan, Iowa, Don Welte of Sergant Bluff, Iowa and Renee Welte of Sioux City, Iowa; son-in-law Pat Boyle of Danbury, Iowa; nine grandchildren Jenny Beltz, Jessica Montiel, David Vandivort, Chris Stotz, Melissa Gulbronson, Shari Jensen, Brenda Neubaum, Terry Boyle and Riley Price-Welte; 10 great grandchildren Anna Beltz, Kennedy de Montiel, Elli and Sam Stotz, Bradley, Hayley and Austin Jensen, Kadence, Shane and Conner Neubaum; and sister-in-law Darelen Bindner of Los Angles, California.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Maurice Welte, daughter Lynn Boyle, sisters Leona Bindner and Bertha Nothem, brothers John, George, Vernon, Charlie, Leonard and Donald Bindner.
A special thanks to Don Welte for the wonderful care he provided to Gloria throughout the years.
