Genevieve "Jenny" Rickert Mapleton, IA - Genevieve L. "Jenny" Rickert, 87, of Mapleton, Iowa died at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa on February 10, 2014. The funeral service is Saturday, February 15 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, Iowa with Pastor Don Studley officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton. Visitation will be Friday, February 14 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton There is no prayer service. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Genevieve Lucille "Jenny" Rickert was born to Herbert Max and Jenny Lucile (Hall) Hahn on March 13, 1926, in Mapleton, Iowa. She grew up in the Mapleton area and graduated from Mapleton High School. Jenny married Waldo Rickert on January 2, 1944. They celebrated seventy years of marriage last month. Jenny and Waldo farmed until 1992. Always a farmer at heart, Jenny enjoyed very little more than a new spring calf, a summer rain, or driving a tractor. In retirement, Jenny crafted with wood, making clocks and game boards, and she helped Waldo manufacture pedal plane parts for Skyline Precision Parts. Jenny and her husband, Waldo, leave a legacy of four children; Doug of Raleigh, North Carolina, Sandy (John) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jackie (Tom Morgan) of Mondamin, Iowa, and David (Cindy) of Ankeny, Iowa. They are blessed with seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Jenny is survived by her husband, Waldo, her children, and six of her eight siblings: Pauline Botsford of Denison, Iowa, Herbert Hahn, Jr. of Omaha, Nebraska, Juanita Bachman of Denison, Iowa, Elizabeth Brooks of Colorado, Springs, Colorado, Francis Hahn of Mapleton, Iowa, and Shirley Bertin of Hysham. Montana. She is predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Norman and Henry. Memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice.
