Obituary for Fred W. Schnoor
Fred W. Schnoor Mapleton, IA - Fred W. Schnoor, 91, of Mapleton, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa. The funeral service will be Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton with Pastor Don Studley officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Fred Wilhelm Schnoor was born to Ferdinand and Ida (Bramstedt) Schnoor in Willow Township near Charter Oak, Iowa on February 28, 1922. He attended country school in Willow Township and was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Fred helped on the family farm until his marriage to Fern Ernst February 23, 1947 by Pastor Elmer Otto at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton. After their marriage they began farming near Charter Oak, moving to a farm near Mapleton in 1968. Fritz loved farming which he did most of his life along with raising livestock. He retired from farming and moved into Mapleton in 1986 in their own home. Fern passed away October 28, 2006. Fred was able to continue living in their home until the time of his death. Fritz enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. While living in town he found contentment in just being at home and watching the children playing in his neighborhood. They had no children but enjoyed when children came to visit. Fred attended St. Peter's United Church of Christ since his marriage to Fern, over 66 years ago. He was an usher at the church services and had served on the church council. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Pearl Hahn of Mapleton, Iowa and Juanita Thies of Aurora, Colorado and many nieces and nephews. Fred and Fern have shared an especially close friendship with Kirk and Julie Bollig and their daughters Stacey (David) Pithan and children and Jill (Josh) Madsen. Preceding his passing along with Fern, his wife of 59 years were his parents, Ferdinand and Ida Schnoor; a brother Martin Schnoor; two sisters Leona and Elsie Schnoor; brothers-in-law Norman Hahn and Martin Thies; sister-in-law Hedwig Schnoor; niece Nancy Ernst; and nephew Bob Ernst.
