Fred W. Kuhlman Mapleton, IA - Fred W. Kuhlman, 94, of Mapleton, Iowa passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton. The funeral Mass will be Tuesday, November 27 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton with Rev. Dan Greving officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with military graveside honors provided by the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton. Visitation will be Monday, November 26 after 6:00 p.m. with a Vigil Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Condolences can be directed to the family at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Fred W. Kuhlman was born September 18, 1918, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the son of Andrew and Idabell (Noel) Kuhlman. He grew up in the Ute, Iowa area where he attended country school. As a young adult, he moved to the Mapleton area where he worked for the Whiteing Farm operation. On June 18, 1955 Fred married Lillian Joslin at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. Together they had two daughters, Mary and Nancy. Fred was previously marred to Bernice Uhl in 1943. She died in 1952 as the result of cancer. Lillian passed away January 3. 2000. Fred was employed with Monona County from 1950 to 1982 where his job primarily was operation of a road maintainer. Fred served his country in the Army from 1942 until 1946 with the 20th Coast Artillery Battalion Harbor Defense. He was a 65 year member of the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton. He was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. Those survivors left to honor Fred's memory include his two daughters, Mary Fokken of Urbandale, Iowa and Nancy Dean and her husband Brian of Quimby, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kristen Hanna and her husband Nick of Buckeye, Iowa, and Bryce and Sabrina Dean both of Quimby; two great grandchildren, Caddie Christensen and Pyper Hanna; a niece, Roberta Stadler of Chicago, Illinois and a nephew, David Joslin of Galva, Iowa. Along with his wives, Fred was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carl Kuhlman and a sister Bonnie Kuhlman.
