Fred Arthur Mohr, Jr., the son of Anna (Kiepe) and Fred Mohr, Sr., was born on April 15, 1930, in Ute, Iowa. Fred grew up on a farm east of Ute and received his elementary education at the Lutheran Day School and upper education from the Ute Public School. In 1943 when he was 13, his parents purchased a farm 2.5 miles west of Ute where Fred lived until his retirement.
On August 17, 1952, Fred was united in marriage to the love of his life, Darlene Grell, in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ute. The couple was blessed with three children: Teri, Randy and Bruce. For 43 years Fred farmed the family homestead west of Ute. Throughout the years Fred was also employed at Berne Co-op, sold seed corn for Golden Harvest, drove a school bus for the Charter Oak-Ute CSD, measured land for the U.S. Government, and worked at the Mapleton sale barn. On July 6, 1995, Fred and Darlene retired and moved into Ute where they were still living.
Fred served on the Berne Co-op Board of Directors for many years, he was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute where he served as an elder, and volunteered on the Ute Centennial Committee. He enjoyed spending time at Timber Ridge, fishing, woodworking, playing cards, and going to garage sales with friends. What Fred treasured most was being with his family. He especially loved singing to his grandchildren and taking family vacations. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 68 years, Darlene Mohr of Ute, IA; his children Teri (Don) Kuhlmann of Charter Oak, IA, Randy (Tammy) Mohr of Ute, IA and Bruce (Terri) Mohr of Mapleton, IA; 7 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
