Obituary for Francis L. Kirsch
Francis L. Kirsch Hornick, Iowa - Francis Luverne Kirsch, 95 years, 2 months, 28 days, of Hornick, Iowa, passed away on June 12, 2014, at a local hospital with his family. Francis was born March 15, 1919 in a farmhouse one mile north of Hornick, Iowa to Albert and Barbara (Becker) Kirsch. He grew up and attended schools at Holly Springs and Hornick and graduated from Holly Springs High School in 1936. After high school, Francis worked on his father's farm and farmed the rest of his life until retiring in 1984. He married Pauline Veronica O'Connell on January 14, 1943, in Oto, Iowa. Francis was Director and Secretary with the Hornick Co-op Board for 21 years, a Boys 4-H Leader for 14 years and Willow Township Clerk for 6 years. He and his wife were one of the first members of the Woodbury County Historical Society. He enjoyed playing cards with his buddies, traveling south to see his children, wintering in Tucson, AZ for more than 20 years, fishing (especially in Canada) and just enjoyed life in general and kidding with people. He was a member of the Holly Springs Church of Christ and then attended the Sloan Community Church of Christ. Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Franklin Kay Kirsch of Huntsville, AL; a daughter Francine May and her husband William McGregor of Sergeant Bluff, IA and a daughter Kathleen Ellen Geiger of Beaumont, TX; six grandchildren, Scott McGregor (Linda) of Council Bluffs, IA, Kevin McGregor (Jennifer) of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Brian McGregor of West Des Moines, IA, Eric and Nathan Kirsch of O'Fallon and Wentzville, MO, and Amy Lockett (Johnathon) of Platte, SD; eight great grandchildren, Ryley, Nolan, and Kasey McGregor of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Katie and Keely McGregor of Council Bluffs, IA, Angelina, Jacqueline and Olivia Lockett of Platte, SD, and one on the way; one great great grandchild Bryson Maxwell of Council Bluffs; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline, of 57 years; a brother Harold Kirsch; two sisters Elsie Yokubaitis and Lillian Thorpe; and several aunts, uncles and in-laws. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren; Scott McGregor, Kevin McGregor, Brian McGregor, Eric Kirsch, Nathan Kirsch, and Amy Lockett. Honorary pallbearers will be great grandchildren; Katie, Keely, Ryley, Nolan and Kasey McGregor, Angelina, Jacqueline, and Olivia Lockett; his card playing buddies; Jack and Janet Steinhoff; Janeal Holmes; Lawrence (Professor) Nelson; and Kathy McKenna Gay.
