Obituary for Florence O'Connor
Florence I. O'Connor, 84, passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City on Tuesday, January 5, 2016.
Florence was born on August 31, 1931, the daughter of Gus and Gladys (Newkirk) Miller near Danbury. She attended Castana High School, graduating with the class of 1949. She was raised in the Lutheran church. She married the love of her life, Darrell W. OConnor on January 26, 1950, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton. They raised their 6 children, 4 girls and 2 boys on their farm three miles west of Mapleton. They also raised cattle and hogs. In October of 2011, Florence and Darrell moved into Mapleton. Darrell passed away on April 12, 2012.
Florence was a member of St. Johns Methodist Church in Mapleton and active with St. Johns Methodist Women. She was a member of the Loren Hollister American Legion Auxiliary Unit #496 of Mapleton.
Those left to cherish their memories of Florence include her children Lou (late Dean) Venteicher of Ida Grove, Darla and David Schleis of Mapleton, Freddie and Shari O'Connor of Canton, SD, Rita and David Rose of Mapleton, Jane Anderson of Norwalk, IA, and daughter-in-law Pam Nelson of Denison. She was also survived by 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; a son, Perry O'Connor; her parents, Gus and Gladys Miller; two grandchildren, Adam Venteicher and Beverly Schleis; a son-in-law, Dean Venteicher; a sister, Donna Domino; and two brothers, Lester and Roy Miller.
