Obituary for Fern Margaret Buttery
Obituary Mapleton, Iowa - Fern M. Buttery, 88, of McAlester, Oklahoma and formerly of Mapleton, Iowa passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 at her home in McAlester, Oklahoma. Services will be Friday, December 27, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton with Pastor Cynthia Moore officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton. The family is accepting condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Fern Margaret Buttery was born October 23, 1925, to Percy "Bert" Habinck and Edith (Thompson) Habinck in Midway, Iowa. Fern graduated from Mapleton High School in 1942. She then attended business college and worked in Sioux City, Iowa at Toy National Bank, the Orpheum Theater and retired from Ouaker Oats as Office Manager. Fern was united in marriage to Elwood "Woody" Buttery June 27, 1947 in Sioux City. The couple moved to Arizona in 1974 and onto Oklahoma in 1990. Survivors include "Woody", her husband of 66 years; one brother-in-law and his wife, Bill and Pat Buttery of Irving, Texas; one sister-in-law, Betty Fox of Belle Vista, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and friends. She was an avid animal lover and is survived by her beloved dog, "Buffy" and cat, "Jenny". Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Edith Habinck.
