Obituary for Fern Jacobson
Fern E. Jacobson, age 92, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home of Mapleton, Iowa.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 25, 2022, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa.
Private Funeral Services will be held with committal following in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Mapleton, Iowa. Pastor Nathan Peitsch will officiate.

Fern Elaine Jacobson, daughter of William and Elsie (Bartels) Engelke, was born on May 2, 1930, on the family farm outside of Ute, Iowa. She attended country school through eighth grade then helped on the farm.
On June 6, 1948, Fern was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Jacobson at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa, where she was a faithful member. Together the couple owned and operated B & F Jacobson Construction where Fern was bookkeeper. They lived in Mapleton and raised their four children there.
Fern demonstrated love and faith in her Lord with her church activities, including LCW (past chairperson), teaching Sunday school, braille making, Altar Guild (past chairperson) and making banners for the sanctuary. Fern was a gentle, quiet soul; family-centered, patient and loving. She also thoroughly enjoyed her flowers, creating craft items, playing cards, and camping and fishing with her husband. At the frequent family gatherings she was always the world’s best gravy maker. When their children were younger, Fern and Bob operated the Little League concession stand for many years.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Bruce Jacobson of Mapleton, IA, Pam (Bob Kaus) Clausen of Holstein, IA, Pat (Denny) Petersen of Danbury, IA and Sheldon (Peg) Jacobson of Mapleton, IA; grandchildren Jamie (Steve) Jacobson, Julie (Corey) Joy, Ryan (Candace) Jacobson, Tracey (John) Maynard, Toni (Jeff) Scott, Tera (Wayne) Spangler, Terri Sue (Craig) Kimberling, Justin (Steff) Clausen, Mike (Katie) Clausen, Scott (Andrea) Jacobson, and Brandon (Taylor) Jacobson; 44 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Elsie (Bartels) Engelke; husband Robert “Bob” Jacobson; daughter-in-law Rose Jacobson; son-in-law Dale Clausen; grandsons Thomas Jacobson and Jon Jacobson; sisters Helen, Ruth, and Marie; brother Raymond.
