Obituary for Elna Barby
Elna F. Barby Anthon, IA - Elna Frances Barby, 95, of Silver City passed away on November 11, 2012 in Silver City, NM at the Silver City Care Center. Funeral services will be Friday, November 16, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 106 Arnold Street in Anthon with Pastor Timothy Chase officiating along with Pastor Andrew Carlson preaching. Following the service and the luncheon, burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday, November 15 after 4:00 p.m. with no prayer service. Condolences may be directed to the family at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Elna Frances Barby was born November 18, 1916 to Frank & Ella Wiedemann in Correctionville, Iowa. Elna was part of the era known as the greatest generation. She lived in and around Anthon, Iowa for 91 years. She worked as an accountant alongside her husband, the love of her life, in the grain elevator business. She retired from Quaker Oats in 1982. She lived through the depression, married a World War II war veteran, taught school in a multi classroom setting, worked tirelessly in a family farming environment, and most importantly lived within the Christian doctrine. She made a difference in all of her endeavors. She taught Sunday school at Climbing Hill Lutheran Church in Iowa for many years. She was a weather watcher. She always knew what storms were on the horizon. She loved to dance with Leo and all of her friends. She will be sorely missed and was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her son Curtiss B. Barby of St Louis, Missouri; by her daughter Creta Barby Foy, son in law Carney Foy, granddaughters Carston Barby Foy and Dr. Caytlyn Foy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Leo Barby and her parents Frank & Ella Wiedemann, along with her brother and sister-in-law, Alva & Eldora Wiedemann.
