Obituary for Edward Schelm
Edward Schelm Ute, IA - Edward Schelm, 96 of Ute, Iowa died Thursday, February 9, 2012 at St. Luke's Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Services will be Saturday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute with Pastor Len Garrison officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences can be directed to the family and the full obituary can be read at armstrongfuneral.com. Edward Ferdinand Schelm was born on January 17, 1916, at Charter Oak, Iowa, the youngest son of Ferdinand W. and Estelle (Robb) Schelm. Edward lived his entire life in the Charter Oak and Ute area. He graduated from Ute High School. Edward married Arlene F. Roach on May 25, 1934, at Vermillion, South Dakota. They farmed in the Ute, Iowa area all their life. Arlene passed away 16 years ago. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ute, Iowa. Ed really enjoyed playing cards and listening to his wife play the organ. He also loved the time spent with his family, especially the grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Survivors include one son, Edward (Buzz) Schelm, Jr. and wife, Anita of Mapleton, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Warren Bretthauer of Ute, Iowa; and one brother, Earl Schelm of Mapleton, Iowa. Along with his beloved wife, Arlene, Ed was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Marilyn Bretthauer; one brother, George Schelm; a sister-in-law, Irene; one grandson, Bruce Schelm; and one granddaughter, Lori Bretthauer.
