Eddie “Ed” L. Burkhart, age 73, of Smithland, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020, at his residence of Smithland, Iowa.

Eddie “Ed” L. Burkhart, the son of Floyd and Lenora (Claus) Burkhart, was born on November 21, 1946, on a farm in the Little Sioux Township of Smithland, Iowa. He grew up on a farm west of Smithland and received his education in the Westwood Community School District.
After school, Ed started working in Sioux City, Iowa, in the parts and supplies of an automotive dealer before taking over the families farming operation in Smithland. After retiring from farming, Ed opened his own gun shell reloading operation named Ed’s Brass & Reloader’s which was still in operation.
On June 11, 2012, Ed married Ofelia Bonita in Sioux City, Iowa and the couple made their home on the family farm west of Smithland. Ed was a big outdoors man and loved hunting, fishing, and shooting trap. He enjoyed watching his family grow and reminiscing about the good ol’ days.
He is survived by his wife Ofelia Burkhart; children: Dan (Nancy) Burkhart, Stacey Burkhart, Janet (Matt) Sorenson and Morgan Daniels; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother Richard Burkhart; and sister Shirley Johnston.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Lenora Burkhart; sister Sharon Burkhart; and Brother Frankie Burkhart.
