Obituary for Ed Liska
Ed Liska Ute, IA - Edward F. "Ed" Liska, 84, of Ute, Iowa died Monday, January 21, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. The funeral service will be Saturday, January 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute with Pastor Marcus Manly officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute with military graveside honors provided by the V.F.W. Post #5605 and the American Legion Aaby Post #442 both of Ute. Visitation will be Friday, January 25 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 501 South Day Ave., Ute, Iowa. Edward Frank Liska was born February 2, 1928, at Council Bluffs, Iowa, the eldest son of Dr. E.J. and Mrs. Erma (Hildaman) Liska. When Ed was just six months old in August of 1928, the family moved to Ute, Iowa, where Dr. Liska practiced medicine for decades. Ed was baptized and confimed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute. He grew up in Ute and attended school there. After completing the 10th grade in Ute, Ed transferred to the Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri where he completed grades 11 and 12.. He was an accomplished athlete in school, recognized in both basketball and football. After high school, Ed returned home for the summer and then enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving in the medical corp. Upon his honorable discharge, he went to Junior College for a year and a half. He started working for State Farm Insurance and later transferred to IBM in Lincoln, Nebraska. His primary job was in data processing and later quality control. Ed was united in marriage to Donna Bohlmeyer at Salem's United Church of Christ in Steinauer, Nebraska on March 20, 1955. In 1956, they moved to Omaha, Nebraska where lived for 22 years. On his 50th birthday, his work moved them to Kansas City, Missouri where they lived and worked until 1996, moving home to Ute. They have resided in the home on Main Street where Ed's father had his medical practice. Ed was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute. He was also a member of the VFW Post #5605 of Ute, the Ute City Council, and the Ute Zoning Committee. Those survivors left to cherish their memories of Ed are Donna, his wife of 57 years; two sons and their wives, Donald and Eileen Liska of Omaha, Nebraska and Daniel and Patricia Liska of Lee Summitt, Missouri; one daughter and her husband, Vicki and Mike Linafelter of Omaha, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands, Nancy and Richard Alberhasky of Kansas City, Missouri and Mary and Jerry Anderson of Barrington, Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Liska of Lyons, Kansas; along with other relatives and good friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. E.J. and Mrs. Erma Liska; and one brother, Dr. Robert W. Liska. Memorials may be directed to the family at their choice for later designation.
