Duane Wesley Banta, Jr. was born August 5, 1951, at Rodney, Iowa, the son of Duane Wesley "Tuck" and Kathleen Estella "Kathy" (McClimans) Banta. He grew up in the area and attended Maple Valley High School in Mapleton, Iowa. At 19, Duane started his career in trucking. His first job was hauling cattle for Mitchell Trucking out of Oto, Iowa which proved to be a quick lesson for a young guy learning how it's done. He also learned this was the job for him and later created Banta Trucking. He hauled anything that needed hauling and would take it wherever it needed to go. This, of course, led to a lot of long haul trucking and sometimes weeks away from home. Taking care of the family at home came first. He was often heard to say, "You never lose money taking a profit." He loved to talk and if you would listen to him, you had a friend and he a a lot of them! As years passed, Duane was able to fulfill his dream and own a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He recently bought a new one and enjoyed time in Sturgis last summer. He usually had a vehicle or two at home that he just had to tinker on and then he would sell it, again turning a little profit. He was pretty good at Texas Hold Em and loved finding casinos on the road. Sometimes, however, he was busted when he got home by the player cards that somehow showed up in the mail. Those family members left to embrace their memories of Duane include Pat, his wife of 29 years; three sons, Ryan Gotto and his wife, Katie, Aaron Gotto and his wife, Kristi, and Michael Gotto, two daughters, Valarie Banta and Amanda Banta and Terrance Flaggs, ALL of Mapleton; eight grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Ardell "Butch" Banta and his wife, Diane, of Correctionville, Iowa; and one sister, Donna Reisdorph and her husband, Dan, of Seneca, Missouri; along with other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Benji Banta.
