Obituary for Dorothy Nelson
Dorothy June Rose (Hansen) Nelson was born November 2, 1925, at Anthon, Iowa, the daughter of Lorenz Martin and Fannie Louise (Clausen) Hansen. She grew up and attended school in the area, helping out on the farm. On January 21, 1942, she was united in marriage to Victor Emmanuel Nelson at Sioux City, Iowa. The couple first made their home at Luton, Iowa, then Danbury, Iowa and later moved to Anthon where they raised their family. Vic died August 29, 1995. Over the years, Dorothy and her sister, Rose Lillie worked together hanging wallpaper and painting in many homes and businesses. She also worked at the Gothier Mink Ranch during pelting season and for the Fireside Steakhouse in Anthon. Dorothy was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon where she actively served in multiple positions. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary McNiff Unit #389 of Anthon. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Roger and Shirley Nelson of Anthon, Iowa, Steve and Becky Nelson of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Greg and Audra Nelson of Alcester, South Dakota; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one brother and his wife, Tom and Sylvia Hansen of Hinton, Iowa; and two sisters, Darlene Jansen of Anthon, Iowa and Thressia Klein of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Along with her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by two daughters, Gaylene in infancy and LaDonna Jean Greenfield; two granddaughters, Gerri and Shelly Greenfield; four sisters, Margaret Callamore, Emma Schmidt, Rose Lillie, and Marie Schmidt; and two brothers, Peter and John Hansen.
