Dorothy M. Zediker, age 88, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home of Mapleton, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ of Mapleton, Iowa. Pastor Linda Boggs will officiate; with Committal Services following in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Mapleton, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Dorothy Marian Zediker was born December 31, 1929, near Charter Oak, IA, the daughter of Albert and Elsie Ketelsen. The family moved to Mapleton when Dorothy was three years old. She was educated in the Mapleton Consolidated School, graduating in 1948.
Dorothy was employed at the Mapleton Press before her marriage. On April 8, 1951, she married John R. Zediker at her parents’ home near Mapleton. The couple farmed until 1963. They family then moved into Mapleton when John started working at Brown Auto Supply. Dorothy started working in the store in 1966. They purchased the business in 1984, renaming it John’s Auto Supply. The business was sold in 1995, when John and Dorothy retired.
Dorothy was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, the Women’s Fellowship at St. Peter’s UCC, a member of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls, Western Iowa Cycle Riders, the Retread Cycle Club, and the Scarlett O’Hatters. John and Dorothy enjoyed ballroom dancing, square dancing, camping with friends, and for over 25 years the couple enjoyed riding their touring motorcycle. They had ridden in every state west of the Mississippi River.
Left to cherish her memory include her children Bruce (Linda) Zediker of Belvidere, IL, Marla (Kenneth) Fries of Benkelman, NE and Owen (Celia) Zediker of Mapleton, IA; nine grandchildren: David (Amber) Zediker of Holland, MI, Amber (Chris) Breeden of Kenosha, WI, Richard, Robert and Alexander “Racy” Zediker of Belvidere, IL, Joshua (Alicia) Fries of Imperial, NE, Gabriel (Jan) Fries of Elkhorn, NE, Jeremy (Katie) Zediker of Boise, ID, Joseph Zediker of Elkhorn, NE; 11 great-grandchildren: Cameron, Jayden, Ferris, Nino, Dylan, Easton, Barry, Lukas, Mia, Lucy and John; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Zediker; her parents Albert and Elsie (Owens) Ketelsen; sister Elaine (Ed) Buenger.
