Donna M. Christensen, age 86, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 01, 2017 at the Dunlap Specialty Care of Dunlap, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 6, 2017, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Mapleton, Iowa. Rev. Chris LaBoube and Rev. Carla Johnsen will officiate, committal services will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Mapleton, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service held at 4:30 p.m., on Sunday, February 2, 2017 at Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Donna May Christensen, of Mapleton, Iowa entered into eternal rest on February 1, 2017 at the Dunlap Specialty Care Center of Dunlap, Iowa.
Donna was born August 18, 1930 in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Milo and Bertha Olson. She grew up and attended school in Hornick, Iowa.
Donna and Norman Christensen were united in marriage October 18, 1949 in Mapleton, IA. Donna and Norman lived in the Oto area before moving to Omaha, NE. They returned to the Mapleton area in 1966 where they engaged in farming. Three children were born to this union, Adeline Kay Garrity, Darlene Lynn Bowman and Donnie Lynn Christensen.
Donna enjoyed being a farm wife and raising her children. She enjoyed gardening and church activities. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman in 2006; her sister, Betty Jane Scheer; sister-in-law, Juanita Thies.
Survivors include her children, Adeline Kay Garrity, Darlene Lynn Bowman and her husband, William “Butch”; and Donnie Lynn Christensen; a sister, Shirley Fredericksen and her husband, Larry; sister-in-laws, Katherine Kruse and Laura Fitzpatrick, brother-in-law, Martin Christensen and his wife MaryAnn; grandchildren, Lynn Allen Schmidt and his wife, Stacie and their children: Landen and Connor; Benjamin, Dakota, Chenoa, Aiyana and Eli Bowman; Shelby Trucke and her husband Ryan; and Alexis Christensen; extended family and friends.
