Obituary for Donna B. Hamann
Donna Belle Hansen was born June 12, 1929 on a farm near Anthon, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Hattie (Hammond) Hansen.ξ She graduated from Anthon High School with the class of 1947.ξ Donna played basketball in high school and had fond memories of that time.ξ During her junior year, her team qualified for the state tournament.ξ On September 5,1948 she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Hamann at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Midway, Iowa.ξ They were given the gift of having shared a 67 year relationship and celebrating the year of their 65th anniversary before Richard passed away on August 3, 2013.ξ The couple was blessed with two children, a daughter, Marcia and aξson, Darwin. She was a dedicated homemaker, devoting the focus of her days to the care of her children and the loving home the family shared. A dearly important event in the home were the Sunday dinners they all enjoyed together. Donna was a member of St. Paul's LutheranξChurch at Midway, Iowa for 65 years.ξ She was a member of the LWML for over 50 years and also taught catechism at St. Paul's.ξ Donna was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.ξ She loved spending time with those closest to her andξalso spending time in her home in Anthon where she lived for 34 years after retiring from the farm. Donna was a kind and gentle lady who always trusted in the Lord, and through out her life time had a sense of peace within herself and with others. She loved dancing with Richard, especially at the Sunday night dances at the Lakewood Ballroom and Convention Center in Lake View, Iowa of which they were part owners for 7 years. She was also blessed to travel all over the world including a trip around the world with her beloved husband. Donna could often be found watching a good basketball game, especially Iowa and Iowa State. She enjoyed watching the different birds out the kitchen window most mornings, the cardinals being her favorites. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Marcia Delperdang and her husband Carl "Marty" of South Sioux City, Nebraska, one son, Darwin Hamann and his wife, Sharon of Correctionville, Iowa; six grandchildren, Travis (Jennifer) Delperdang of Sioux City, Iowa, ξAmber (Kenny) Smallcomb of Sioux City, Iowa,ξCourtney (Terence) Willson of Sioux City, Iowa,ξJason (Julie) Hamann of Correctionville, Iowa, ξLance (Jana) Hamann of Correctionville, Iowa, ξand Kattie Hamann of Clive, Iowa; and 10 great-grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters.
