Obituary for Donald D. Dean
Donald D. Dean, age 81, of Ricketts, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the Creighton Bergan Mercy Hospital of Omaha, Nebraska.
A Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the St. John’s United Methodist Church of Mapleton, Iowa. Rev. Jena Manchester will officiate; Military Rites will be conducted by the Loren Hollister Post #496 of the American Legion of Mapleton, Iowa; Committal will be held at a later date in the Heisler Cemetery of rural Mapleton, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the St. John’s United Methodist Church of Mapleton, Iowa. Donald D. Dean, the son of Claude “Boots” and Fern (Harrington) Dean, was born on November 4, 1936, at home in Mapleton, Iowa. Donald grew up in Mapleton and attended Mapleton Consolidated School through the 8th grade.
On February 7, 1956, Donald enlisted into the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on December 6, 1957.
On November 7, 1958, Donald was united into marriage to Lois E. Christensen in Mapleton, Iowa. The couple were blessed with three children Bonnie, Brian, and Barry. During this time Donald worked as a mechanic at a truck stop in Sioux City, Iowa and other various places. Donald and Lois would later part ways.
On December 27, 1968, Donald married Katherine “Kathy” C. Taylor in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Donald and Katherine welcomed a daughter Jennifer. The family made their home in Bolingbrook, Illinois where Donald worked for Vulcan Material for 35 years. In 1984, the family would tragically lose Kathy, leaving Donald to raise his young daughter on his own.
Donald would relocate and run his own business in Warsaw, Missouri before retiring back to Iowa and settling in Ricketts. Donald loved his grandchildren, Harley Davidson motorcycles, camping and boating, and cherished his time spent with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Claude “Boots” and Fern Dean; brother Jimmie Dean; and wife Kathy Dean.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Bonnie (Galen) Bollig of Smithland, IA, Brian (Nancy) Dean of Quimby, IA, Barry (Angie) Dean of Edgerton, WI, and Jennifer (John) Willroth of Correctionville, IA; grandchildren: Amanda, Tasha, Trent, Tyler, Bryce, Sabrina, Jacob, Jared, Joshua, Josie, Calab, Cristina, Bethany, Anna, Jesse, Kristine and Krystal; great-grandchildren: Serenity, Mahayla, Dominique, Raymond, Kiya, Skylar, Kallie, Kaydon, Nikolia, Benjamin, Ahri and two on the way; sister Ila Mae McClure of Onawa, IA; and extended family and friends.
