Donald D. Dean, the son of Claude “Boots” and Fern (Harrington) Dean, was born on November 4, 1936, at home in Mapleton, Iowa. Donald grew up in Mapleton and attended Mapleton Consolidated School through the 8th grade.

On February 7, 1956, Donald enlisted into the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on December 6, 1957.

On November 7, 1958, Donald was united into marriage to Lois E. Christensen in Mapleton, Iowa. The couple were blessed with three children Bonnie, Brian, and Barry. During this time Donald worked as a mechanic at a truck stop in Sioux City, Iowa and other various places. Donald and Lois would later part ways.

On December 27, 1968, Donald married Katherine “Kathy” C. Taylor in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Donald and Katherine welcomed a daughter Jennifer. The family made their home in Bolingbrook, Illinois where Donald worked for Vulcan Material for 35 years.
