Don R. Beckner, age 76, of Smithland, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016, at his home of Smithland, Iowa.

Donald Beckner was born on March 1, 1940, in Sioux City, Iowa to Carl and Mildred (Brien) Beckner. He grew up in Sioux City, Iowa where he attended West Sioux City School. On December 9, 1972, Don was united into marriage to Gaylyn Bainbridge in Elk Point, South Dakota. Don welcomed Gaylyn’s two children Ron and Dawn. Gaylyn welcomed Don’s three children Tammy, Aleacha, and Tommy.
The family made their home in Newton, Iowa, where Don ran his own business D&B Carpentry. Working with his hands, Don built many homes and completed remodeling projects. They moved to Des Moines, Iowa area and then settled in Smithland, Iowa in 2006.
Don enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, carpentry projects, watching the Walton’s and the occasional trip to the casino.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Gaylyn Beckner, children, Tammy Beckner, Aleacha (Randy) Crocker, and Tommy Beckner; step children, Ron (Melissa) McConnell, and Dawn McConnell; sister Barbara Downs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Sonny Beckner and Michael Cross.
Abiding by his wishes his body was cremated and there will be a family visitation only.
