Obituary for Delores D. Stephenson
Delores D. Stephenson, age 89, of Denison formerly of Ute, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at the Eventide Lutheran Home of Denison, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Our Savior Lutheran Church of Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Loeschen will officiate. Committal will follow in the St. Clair Township Cemetery of Ute, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ute, Iowa. Delores D. Stephenson, the daughter of Henry F. and Marie (Siels) Klaus, was born on July 7, 1929, in Ute, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm south east of Ute. She was baptized as an infant on July 28, 1929 and was later confirmed in her Lutheran faith on April 18, 1943, in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ute.
On April 17, 1949, Delores was united into marriage to Wayne A. Stephenson by Rev. Neiting in the Lutheran Church of Ute. The couple settled down on a farm 3 miles west of Ute and raised their family and farmed for 52 years. They relocated to Denison, Iowa in December of 2000.
Delores was a very active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ute and a seventy-six year member. She loved all little children and donated her time teaching nursery class for twenty-three years, confirmation class for six years, and VBS. She enjoyed praising her Lord by sharing her voice in the church choir. When the couple relocated to Denison, they became active members in the Our Savior Lutheran Church of Denison.
Delores liked gardening and tending to her flowers, roses were her favorite. She always made herself available to lend a helping hand in her church and to her wonderful neighbors.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children Diana (Gary) Wood of Georgetown, TX and Dennis (Gloria) Stephenson Rocheport, MO; 8 grandchildren Robert (Kelly) Bielenberg, James (Patty) Bielenberg, Mark Bielenberg, Shane (Kelly) Stephenson, Matthew (Heather) Stephenson, Whitney Shippee, Elliott Stephenson, and Kurstin Stephenson; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sisters Lucille Kruse of Denison, IA and Agnes Goodner of Harlan, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Marie Klaus; husband Wayne Stephenson; brother Ervin Klaus; sisters Esther Behrendson, Helen Boettger and Leona Goslar; daughter-in-law Thais Stephenson; and grandson Roman Stephenson.
