Obituary for Della Wenger
Danbury, IA - Della D. Wenger, 91, of Danbury, Iowa passed away Monday, August 6, 2012, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton. The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Pastor Scott Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton. Visitation will be Wednesday at the church from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton has been entrusted with the arrangements. Della D. Wenger was born November 4, 1920, at home near Oto, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Hulda (Schmidt) Shever. She grew up in the Oto/Danbury area where she attended country school. She married Fritz Plautz in 1939. The couple farmed and raised their two sons in rural Danbury. Fritz died in August of 1971. In December of 1973, Della married Dean Wenger and they made their home in Danbury. She was a very active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton along with the Ladies Aid. She worked at Maple Heights Nursing Home in the 1970's and also worked at Krueger's in Danbury for a time. Della was a very patriotic person and served many years as an involved President of the American Legion Auxiliary Carlson-Frum Unit #336 of Danbury, often hosting the group meetings in her home. Survivors include her husband, Dean; a daughter-in-law, Nadine Plautz of Danbury; two grandsons and their wives, Jeff and Christina Plautz of Sioux City and Brian and Amanda Plautz of Danbury; one granddaughter, Terri Plautz of Sergeant Bluff; three great grandchildren, Jamie and Adam Plautz of Danbury and Alex Ehlers of Mapleton; one brother-in-law, Earl Wenger and one sister-in-law, Helen Pithan, both of Danbury along with many nieces and nephews. Della was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fritz; both of her sons, Veryl and Verdett Plautz; and a brother, Merlin Shever.
