Obituary for Darrell J. Petersen

Darrell J. Petersen, age 81, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the Northern Mahaska Specialty Care of Oskaloosa, Iowa.


A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the St. Clair Township Cemetery of Ute, Iowa. Rev. Nathan Peitsch will officiate.

Darrell John Petersen, the son of Elmer and Bertha (Kroeger) Petersen, was born on January 4, 1943, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up in the Charter Oak, Iowa, area and attended country school until the 8th grade. He then Married Peggy Dunwoody and had 3 children while farming in Iowa. The family moved to California. He purchased a laundry mat.


In 1982 he met Shirley Lorenz and they married in 1983. In his passing he was a Journeyman Electrician for 40 years. His love was his family and building things.


Left to cherish his memory include his children Sharon Trapp of Oskaloosa, IA, David (Kristen) Petersen of Camden, SC and Jason (Jennifer) Petersen of Callahan, FL; 10 grandchildren: Michelle Petersen, Dean Petersen, Grant Petersen, TeAnna Hasso, Matthew VanSkike, Kathleen VanSkike, Jessica Manning, Jasmyn Petersen, and Jade Petersen; brother Don Petersen of Ute, IA; sister Dorothy Treft of Perry, IA; extended family and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Bertha Petersen; wife Shirley Petersen; a stillborn daughter Patricia Joyce Petersen; and sister Darlene (Leonard) Gotto.
